Desks for Kilimahewa Nursery School.

This summmer, I volunteered at the Kilimahewa Nursery School in Kilimanjaro, Tanzania (AFRICA) for 3 weeks. I taught 6 and 7-year-old children English and Math.

Kilimahewa Nursery School started when a father, Mr. Massawe, could not take his child to a nursery school because of its far distance from his home. As a solution, he started a school from his own house. 7 years later, more than 120 children are currently taught within his school walls. Extensions to his house have been built to accomodate the growing rate of children attending his school.

Mr. Massawe depends on incoming volunteers to aid him in teaching the children. If it were not for the volunteers, he would teach the children himself.

The classroom I taught in enclosed no desks. The children had to use small plastic chairs and small individual chalk boards on their laps as desks instead.

My mission is to raise $800.00 for 20 desks ($40.00 per desk). This is my way of supporting the school from my home in Seattle and providing desks for the children is the least I could do to help further their education.

Anything will help! Thanks so much.

Love, Evalynn.
